Hurrah! Dharma Trading Co Feature...
So excited! I applied to the Dharma Trading Co featured artist. Then forgot about it. I was thrilled, when they contacted me for a feature. I love Dharma! I grew up, near their flagship store in San Rafael, CA. I bought a lot of Procion dyes, back in the 80's to color my jeans. Fun times! Dharma is an amazing company that has been around for 47 years. I dyed the yarn above using a blend of dyes, purchased from Dharma Trading Co.
I used a salt shaker dye method, to dye the yarn pictured. Salt shaker has a interesting history! Earliest notes, I found were during civil war times. Ladies, would save their stained woolen dresses, by speckle dyeing. Back when, every girl was taught to sew. The less advantaged, would dye and re-imagine fashions into something wonderful. Making lemonade out of lemons. As dyers dyed clothing, all spilled or leftover dyes dyes would be saved. They would pop it into a salt shaker-and use it in future dye sessions. Later on this method was adopted by rug hookers, and home dyers.
